Though it is observed mainly in the United States, the commitment and dedication of our military veterans have changed and affected the lives of many people and nations all over the world. Paying tribute to veterans is a tradition that should be practiced every day. It has an immeasurable amount of value and stems from a long history.
This annual holiday, originally named Armistice Day, is celebrated on November 11th in remembrance of the day the Armistice was signed and ended World War I in 1918. Initially the day was proclaimed by President Woodrow Wilson in the year 1919.
In the beginning, Armistice Day focused more on honoring those who died doing the country’s service. It was not until 1953, when a shoe store owner came up with the idea and ran a campaign to convert Armistice Day to a holiday that includes all veterans. President Dwight Eisenhower signed the new bill on May 26, 1954. The United States Congress amended the act on June 1 of that same year thus changing “Armistice Day” to what we have come to know and celebrate as Veterans Day.
With today being Veterans Day, we are going to take this time to say thank you to all veterans and members of the armed forces. As individuals, members of a nation, and a country, we recognize and appreciate the fact that without their sacrifices life as we know it would not be possible. It is by the result of service members’ bravery that we are able to do what we need and want to do.
So, to all our Veterans we say Happy Veterans Day from Signature Pins and thank you for your contribution and service.
