Many people consider November 10, 1775 the birth of today’s United States Marine Corps. That very day, Captain Samuel Nicholas formed the Continental Marines of the American Revolutionary War by a resolution of the Second Continental Congress. Today marks the 236 anniversary of this date. Marines worldwide celebrate this momentous event with military balls.

Each location determines the location of their birthday ball. For example, the 2011 MCAS Marine Corps Birthday Ball will be celebrated at the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center in Savannah, GA. All of the Air Station’s Marines, Sailors, Department of Defense employees and their families are invited to attend. This year’s Marine Corps Ball will allow Fightertown’s Marines and Sailors of all ranks and grades to celebrate the Marine Corps Ball and reflect on the Air Stations accomplishments.

Celebrities frequently attend military balls when asked. This year, Mila Kunis, Betty White, and Justin Timberlake have been asked by Marines to attend the special events in their areas. In the past, Kristin Cavallari and Miley Cyrus were asked. Having a celebrity as a date has its benefits. There will be plenty of photo opportunities to take advantage of.

On behalf of Signature Pins, we want to wish all of our Marine Corps customers a very safe and enjoyable time at their birthday ball. Semper Fi! May this year’s event be as memorable as it was in the past.
