The Red Hat Society was started by Sue Ellen Cooper after she purchased a bright red fedora from a thrift store. She loved the look of the hat and decided that one day it would serve a purpose in her wardrobe. That inclination was right because a few years later, she read a poem titled “Warning” by Jenny Joseph which was written about an older woman who wears a red hat. Ms. Cooper loved the poem so much that she decided to give a copy of it along with a red hat to one of her friends on her birthday. The trend continued as one friend passed the poem and a red hat to another friend. It was there that the Red Hat Society was first formed.
The Red Hat Society’s Humble Beginnings
Today, Red Hat Societies exist worldwide. Ms. Cooper has experienced such success with her groups that she has held three conferences and filled rooms full of Red Hat members. Groups like these are a great way to meet with new friends and share experiences. In fact, many Red Hat Societies choose to have their own custom lapel pins made. This allows members to show their affiliation with the group and also gives them a way to show the pride they share by being part of the organization.
Custom Lapel Pins Are a Great Tool for Meetings and Conventions
If you are part of the Red Hat Society or another type of club, you will benefit from creating and using custom lapel pins at your meetings and conventions. Not only is this a great way to get the word out about the things that you do throughout the year, it also helps with fundraising events. This allows future conferences and workshops to be successful because it helps reduce their costs. Many groups look to selling their pins to help finance trips, buy supplies and refreshments, and pay for meeting spaces.
Trading Pins with Other Members at National Events
They can be traded at national conventions or meetings. You can have your organization’s name or catch phrase included on the pin. Handing these items out to others brings recognition to your group. This allows you to recruit new members and bring attention to the things that you do in your community.
