Recently, we were contacted by the Texas Rangers, a law enforcement agency with statewide jurisdiction in Texas.  The group consisted of 144 commissioned members of the Range force in 2009 and is based in Austin, Texas.  In the past, the Texas Rangers have investigated crimes of all types including murder and political corruption.  They have also acted as riot police and detectives, protected the Governor of Texas, tracked down wanted criminals, and functioned as a paramilitary force of both the Republic as well as the state of Texas. Unofficially created by Stephen F. Austin in 1823 and formally constituted on October 17, 1835, the unit was dissolved by federal authorities during post-Civil War Reconstruction era and quickly reformed upon the reinstitution of home government.  Since the mid-1930s, it has been a division of the Texas Department of Public Safety.  It fulfills the role of Texas’s State Bureau of Investigation.
