Central Florida has special plans to celebrate the 42nd anniversary of Earth Day.  This year’s festival will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Lake Eola Park.  Central Florida Earth Day is free for everyone and held rain or shine.  In addition to sponsors, vendors, and contributors, there will also be musicians sharing their talents with everyone in attendance at the event.

Central Florida Earth Day is organized by Vegetarians of Central Florida.  The annual event brings awareness to environmental issues and also gives residents and visitors to Orlando pointers on how to reduce their carbon footprint and be more “green” in their personal and professional lives.

The Earth Day Movement was started in 1970.  A lot of changes were taking place and people began to notice the negative impact that was taking place on the planet.  Determined to do something about it, Earth Day founder Gaylord Nelson, a U.S. Senator from Wisconsin, announced the idea for a “national teach-in on the environment” to the national media.  He recruited Denis Hayes to help promote 85 events across the land.

Because of his efforts, 20 million Americans took to the streets, parks, and auditorium to demonstrate what a healthy, sustainable environment looks like.  Groups fight against oil spills, factory pollution, raw sewage, toxic dumping, pesticides, deforestation, and the extinction of wildlife.

The organizer of Central Florida Earth Day offer the same type of educational experience but also offer food, entertainment, and products that are eco-friendly and sustainable.  Join Signature Pins in wishing our friends in Central Florida a successful Earth Day 2012.
