Cloisonné Lapel Pins

Cloisonné lapel pins, also called hard enamel pins, begin as a die struck pin, in which your design is stamped using tons of pressure from a metal die. This die stamp is created from your original design. After your pins have been struck out from the raw base metal (typically brass or copper) they go for coloring. The color filling process used in cloisonné pins starts with a powdered glass mixture which is kiln-fired at over 1700 degrees. This melts the glass-like powder into hard solid color areas. Because the color is filled all the way to the surface of the depression made with the die stamp. Afterwards your pins are buffed, giving a high luster glossy finish that easily shows the quality and class this style is created with. This look is what gives Cloisonné lapel pins their 'Jewelry' look.

Soft Enamel Lapel Pins

Soft Enamel pins are arguably the most recognizable process for making lapel pins. Its notable for its embossed look and feel. First a die stamp is created with your design. This die is used to strike your design into copper or iron base metal. If your design calls for it, we hand sandblast the pin to create the textured background. Enamel colors are then applied to the recessed areas based on your design. A syringe filled with paints is used to fill the wells created by the die stamping process. Your pins are than baked in a 350 degree oven to cure the enamel. A trim tool is than used to carefully cut out the outside shape of your lapel pin. The raised surface of your lapel pin is than polished to a mirror like finish.
